Basic Place Setting

Step 2.

Basic Place Setting

A proper place setting consists of several distinct elements, each serving a specific purpose. The order of these components starting at the left should be a napkin, the needed forks, a plate, knives and spoons, and then the glasses. Below we'll explain in more detail how you should place these on the table.

Napkin: Begin by placing the napkin either on the center of the dinner plate or to the left of the forks. You can fold it neatly or use a napkin ring for an added touch of elegance.

Forks: Place the forks on the left side of the dinner plate. Start from the outside and work your way in, placing the fork for the first course on the far left and subsequent forks to the right.

Plate: The dinner plate takes center stage, aligned with the bottom of the forks.

Knives & Spoons: To the right of the plate, place the knife with the cutting edge facing the plate. The spoons go to the right of the knife.

Glasses: Position the water glass directly above the dinner knife, and any wine glasses slightly to the right.

Proper Silverware Placement

Step 3.

Proper Silverware Placement

The correct placement of silverware is crucial for a refined table setting. Place silverware in the order they will be used, starting from the outside and working inward. Additionally, only set the table with flatware that will be used during the meal. Remember the acronym "FORKS" to ensure your flatware is arranged correctly.
