Few things are better than coming home after a long day and relaxing in your favorite seat in the living room. Relaxation and comfort are synonymous with the recliner. This piece of living room furniture has come a long way in terms of comfort and style than in years past.

Here are a few things to consider when choosing a favorite lounger...

Size & Space

When choose a recliner, make sure the chair will fit comfortably in the space you have available.

We love these for size: Ashley Nerviano Recliner & Ashley Coombs Oversized Recliner.
Measure out the space where you're planning to place the chair. Keep those measurements in mind when looking at the height, width and depth of your new lounger. Don't forget about adding additional space to fully recline!

Traditional recliners should be placed about 3 feet from the wall to fully recline. For a small space, wall-hugger loungers only need to be a couple inches from the wall. These space-saving loungers do not skimp on support either, offering a weight limit of up to 500 lbs. The Ashley Nerviano has a zero-wall design, allowing you to fully relax without taking up much space.

If you have a larger space to fill, the Ashley Coombs Oversized Armchair is a “chair and a half.”This wide seat recliner leans back to almost a fully flat position. You can kick back comfortably with room to spare!

Style

Choose a chair that fits with your personal style and the decor of your home.

We love these for style: Ashley Larkinhurst Recliner, Bernhardt Parc Power Motion Recliner, & Bernhardt Middleton Power Recliner.

The most coveted seat in the house does not have to be an eyesore in the room anymore. Mathis Home offers an array of styles to choose from, many that will blend seamlessly into your current décor. Traditional style loungers such as the Ashley Larkinhurst have a classic, timeless look featuring rolled arms and nailhead trim. Additionally, traditional style chairs may feature tufted upholstery and wood accents.

Contemporary seating, such as the chic Bernhardt Parc Power Motion, have a more modern, minimalist aesthetic. This style of chair often features clean lines, sleek fabrics, and metal accents.

The Bernhardt Middleton Power is transitional style. Transitional combines style elements that are traditional and contemporary. This chair can be a good choice for those who want a more neutral look.

Comfort

Recliners are often synonymous with comfort, but comfort looks different to everyone.

We love this chair for comfort: La-Z-Boy Randell Mocha Rocking Recliner.
The level of comfort depends on the overall design of the chair. The upholstery, cushioning, reclining mechanism, size, and durability are all important when choosing the right chair for you.

Some chairs are made with high-density foam cushions and padded armrests for added comfort. Others have lumbar support or built-in massagers to help reduce muscle tension and improve circulation.

The height and depth of the seat ensure that you get the best fit for your body. When shopping for recliners for tall people, the La-Z-Boy Randell Mocha Rocking Chair offers an extra tall back and extended leg rest, accommodating those as tall as 6’2” comfortably.

Features

There are many features available to enhance their comfort, convenience, and functionality.

We love these for features: La-Z-Boy James Walnut Rocking Recliner, Ashley Yandel Power Lift Recliner, Ashley Screen Time Power Recliner, Bernhardt Blake Power Motion Recliner.

Recliners offer manual or power mechanisms. Manual loungers are often smaller than power recliner chairs and can be placed anywhere in the room as they do not need a power source, making them great for small spaces. The La-Z-Boy James Walnut Rocking is a manual reclining chair that has a three-position locking leg rest. Power recliners, however, provide reclining at the push of a button and come with more options such as adjustable lumbar support, massage and heat options, and power lift capabilities.

Lift mechanism: A lift chair is designed to easily assist people transitioning from a seated to a standing position. It typically has a dual motorized mechanism that both reclines and raises the chair to a near-standing position, allowing the user to easily stand up with minimal effort.

People with mobility issues or disabilities, as well as elderly people often find lift chairs appealing. This type of chair is designed for anyone who may have difficulty standing from a traditional chair. The Ashley Yandel Power Lift lets you enjoy custom comfort positioning with the push of a button. This seat has the appearance of a leather recliner but is covered in a cozy feel-good fabric.

Massagers: Some loungers come with built-in massagers that use vibration or heat to relax muscles and improve circulation.

Cup holders: These are small compartments or holders built into the chair where you can place a drink or snack while you relax.

Storage: Many have built-in storage compartments or pockets where you can keep books, magazines, remotes, or other small items. The Ashley Screen Time Power offers a cupholder and discreet storage on both arms of the one-touch control power button. This seating option is perfect for a home theater.

Remote control: Many power armchairs come with a remote control that allows you to adjust the reclining angle and other features of the chair without reaching too far.

USB ports: Some recliners have built-in USB ports that allow you to charge your devices while you relax in the chair. The Bernhardt Blake Power Motion Recliner is both stylish and functional, offering a USB port next to the power reclining push button.

Swivel base: Some armchairs are mounted on a swivel base, which allows them to rotate in a circular motion. This can be convenient if you want to easily access items in different parts of the room.

Easy to Clean Material

Recliners can be made from a variety of materials, including fabric, leather, and microfiber.

We love this reclining seat because it’s easy to clean: Monster Living Bake Floor Recliner.
Each type of material has its own benefits and drawbacks, and the best choice for you will depend on your personal preferences and needs. Fabric options are often more budget-friendly and can be made from a wide range of materials, including cotton, polyester, and wool. Fabric chairs are generally easy to clean and maintain. The Monster Living Bake Floor Recliner even has a zippered design cover, so you can easily remove and wash the fabric cover.

Leather loungers are more expensive than fabric, but they are also more durable and long-lasting. Leather can be easy to clean and maintain, but it may not be as comfortable as fabric for some people. Microfiber chairs are made from a synthetic fiber that is soft, durable, and easy to clean. They are generally more budget-friendly than leather seating and can be a good choice for those who want a comfortable and practical seating option.

The frame is constructed from other materials such as wood, metal, and plastic. It's important to consider the quality and durability of the materials used when making your decision, as well as the level of comfort and support they provide.

Mathis Home makes your decision for the perfect seat to sit back and relax in a piece of cake. When shopping with Mathis, you can have your cake and eat it too...in your new recliner!
