Brooklyn Dresser and Mirror
It was March, 1912, and a man named John Lane had bought a box plant in Altavista, Virginia. His son Ed Lane, twenty-one at the time and with little manufacturing experience, was encouraged by his father to try his hand at building "cedar" chests in the newly acquired plant. Because the Lanes didn't expect much success from their new venture, they didn't want to put their name on it, so they incorporated the little company as the Standard Red Cedar Chest Company, with John Lane as President and Ed Lane as Vice President and General Manager.
From cedar chests, Lane expanded to occasional tables in 1951, casegoods in 1956, and accent pieces in 1965. In 1972, Lane bought a small reclining chair company in Tupelo, Mississippi named Action Industries. Under their ownership, the company achieved tremendous growth over the next 20 years, becoming a major force in the upholstered furniture industry. Today, the wood and upholstered divisions have become Lane Home Furnishings, now universally recognized as one of America's most trusted names in home furnishings and the largest manufacturer of recliners in the world.
Lane's reclining upholstery line was developed as a result of a demand for high quality reclining upholstery from a well-respected company, dependable company. The company's designers and engineers work continually to develop attractive, innovative, top-quality furniture that fulfills Lane's mission to be "the most comfortable seat in the house."
With more than five state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, Lane now offers more than 40 styles of reclining upholstery, ranging from traditional to transitional and country to contemporary, in hundreds of fabrics and sumptuous leathers. From traditional sofa / loveseat combinations to the trendy look of a chaise sectional, Lane's products are available in a wide variety of configurations to suit everchanging lifestyles, all based on a steel superstructure for superior performance and years of care free operation.
Lane's product line now includes living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, entertainment centers, and accessories, including - of course - the famous Lane Cedar Chests.
